05/19/2014 Top Picks – Daily Shirt Designs

Hello loyal readers! I’m shaking things up a bit today so bear with me…

So I only picked 2 shirt designs today. I am changing it up a little because no other design really caught my attention. Going forward I will be posting only the daily designs which truly captivate me so I can give them their due. I don’t want to be stuck with a rigid 3 design quota, and this allows me more wiggle room. I hope you enjoy!

05/19/14 Top 2 Pick; Boba The Animated Series

Have you noticed all the Star Wars and Batman designs lately? Well here’s a little of both. The lone bounty hunter stands tall, surveying the scene. Wonderful, strong silhouette stands surrounded by warm copper tones and cool glowing blue details. Boba’s armor, jetpack, and cape cast a strikingly similar silhouette to Batman, which fits nicely. I really enjoy the brown copper color which I feel I rarely see paired with that bright blue. The contrast of these two colors gives the design dimension. As a designer, it is always fun to try different color combinations. Sometimes they work and unfortunately sometimes they don’t. I think this color combination was a success, I’ll have to store it in my color combo memory bank.

Thank You Nicko Designs

05/19/14 Top 2 Pick; Frosty Flakes

Cool down this summer with Elsa and Shirt Punch. These Frosty Flakes are Grrrrrreat! and magically delicious! Wonderful, well-balanced composition. I love the variation of color and thickness of the outlines. Elsa’s large bright eyes and wind-swept braided hair looks well rendered. The rest of the design consists of a wintry background with snowflakes for a well-rounded composition with depth.  I greatly enjoy the snowflake cut out shape that helps the figure’s cape transition to the shirt. Yes, I do catch these small details, and I love them!

04/17/2014 Top 3 Picks – Daily Shirt Designs

Recommended for ages 16 and up! No one can resist the mistress of all evil! Maleficent is not responsible for any death, injury, coma, or true love you may incur. Being a sucker for typography, I enjoy the wide, evil horned shaped letter forms. The bright purples, greens, and yellows with the skull in the bottom center gives these design the appearance of poison. The figure’s face and the winding vines in the background are a luring and enthralling.

04/17/14 Top 3 Pick; Freedom

“Booker, are you afraid of God?” “No. But I’m afraid of you.” Here we have Elizabeth, the damsel not quite in distress. This design depicts many elements of Bioshock Infinite in which Elizabeth takes control. We see the tables have turned on her jailor, Songbird. In the background, one of Elizabeth’s tears is open to Paris and is also foreshadowed by the Eiffel Tower in the foreground. Keen observers may even notice the Return of the Jedi on the theater marquee! This is an interesting circular composition in which the main figure appears to sit on a pedestal. Wonderful purple blue hues to show the tear effect. That should be interesting to see with a spot gloss, perhaps giving the design dimension. Elizabeth’s face is looking up and away. It carries emotion and makes her seem pensive or reflecting.

04/17/14 Top 3 Pick; A Robot’s Impression

I think this design is entirely original, but if it’s referencing something, please let me know! I highly enjoy the color palette used in this design. The wonderful striation of the long thin stokes gives the effect of rain coming down. The rain nicely defines the figure in the scene. The neon colors reflected in the rain are nicely balanced throughout the design. The negative space figures in the bottom foreground are wonderful and create a nice transition from design to shirt.

04/11/14 Top 3 Pick; Justice

So where do I enlist? Is SHIELD hiring? Here we have America’s literal ‘poster’ boy! Looks like Steve Rogers is about to pop out of this stars and stripes design. He looks highly detailed using simple color illusions so the eye completes the image. Wonderful radiating background. I enjoy how the background elements break from the rectangular frame.

04/11/14 Top 3 Pick; Robolution

From Metropolis to Wall-E, we see the evolution of our artificial counterparts. Wonderful incline composition. The robots are nicely detailed with simple white outlines on the dark figures. I enjoy how the robots are not posing together or the same, they are naturally standing or flying in same cases.

04/11/14 Top 3 Pick; Cap’n Ameri-Crunch

Start the day right. Wipe out hunger AND Hydra with the Cap’n! This cereal looks like a blast in the morning. There are many components in this design, but all are well-balanced and work well together. I enjoy all the wonderful details and care each component was given. The trading cards are a nice touch and a nod to the first Avengers movie.
