Somewhere beyond the sea
Somewhere waitin’ for me

Composition – Great sense of being submerged due to the contained large rectangular composition. The elongated design allows for both details above and under water.

Lines and Forms – Wonderful amount of simplified details. I really enjoy all the well-formed shapes within the design, incorporating both positive and negative space.

06/08/14 Top Pick; I ‘ll Protect You

Color – The color in the design really helps stabilize and adds visual interest. Since the Big Daddy looks visually heavy in black, the brighter colors on the left side help balance his body on the right.

Texture – I really enjoy the texture in this design. The chalk pastel style gives it rich complexity. The feathered lines look quick and distressed which contrasts nicely with the bright looks.

Composition – The large-scale of the Big Daddy figure dominates the design. Although the Little Sister is much smaller, the composition is stabilized by the Big Daddy’s pose. He is leaning over towards her, creating a continuous, implied arch line from his headgear to her little form and bright dress.

This wise little guy looks like he is radiating the force.

Composition – Wonderful haloing effect around a well-rendered Yoda. The position of his upward-lifting head suggests he is calm and at peace. The top radiation pattern is nicely balanced with the smaller bottom radiating pattern.

Lines – I really enjoy the radiating lines created by the thin triangle and circle patterns. The pattern is wonderfully geometric and creates a great complex background.

Recommended for ages 16 and up! No one can resist the mistress of all evil! Maleficent is not responsible for any death, injury, coma, or true love you may incur. Being a sucker for typography, I enjoy the wide, evil horned shaped letter forms. The bright purples,greens, and yellows with the skull in the bottom center gives these design the appearance of poison. The figure’s face and the winding vines in the background are a luring and enthralling.

“Booker, are you afraid of God?” “No. But I’m afraid of you.” Here we have Elizabeth, the damsel not quite in distress. This design depicts many elements of Bioshock Infinite in which Elizabeth takes control. We see the tables have turned on her jailor, Songbird. In the background, one of Elizabeth’s tears is open to Paris and is also foreshadowed by the Eiffel Tower in the foreground. Keen observers may even notice the Return of the Jedi on the theater marquee! This is an interesting circular composition in which the main figure appears to sit on a pedestal. Wonderful purple blue hues to show the tear effect. That should be interesting to see with a spot gloss, perhaps giving the design dimension. Elizabeth’s face is looking up and away. It carries emotion and makes her seem pensive or reflecting.

04/17/14 Top 3 Pick; A Robot’s Impression

I think this design is entirely original, but if it’s referencing something, please let me know! I highly enjoy the color palette used in this design. The wonderful striation of the long thin stokes gives the effect of rain coming down. The rain nicely defines the figure in the scene. The neon colors reflected in the rain are nicely balanced throughout the design. The negative space figures in the bottom foreground are wonderful and create a nice transition from design to shirt.

Andrew Ryan’s worst nightmare! A wonderful dystopian mash up. Just as Freder had to journey under the ground to learn the ugly truth of his city, so too does the audience of Bioshock go under the sea. The elongated design with the figure at the bottom mimics the depths to which the characters go through. The geometric, art deco style is justly used to convey both subject matter. I enjoy the warm antique gold tones on the black background. The typography uses cut out, angular shapes again tying both subject matter up nicely.

The shirt illuminates Elsa, The Ice Queen’s magic. The impressive glow effect achieved by the contrast of the bright blues against the dark background is incredible. I greatly enjoy the out of focus snowflakes represented by lighter circles floating in the mid-ground and background. Her cape has a nice dynamic pose defined out of the negative space. Else’s pose is interesting, as the figure is facing away and looking back. The glow around her head keeps the focus on her.

Would you kindly check out this design? This scene depicts a rare moment of tenderness in Rapture between a Big Daddy and his Little Sister. Don’t get between this odd couple or you’ll be swimming with the fishes, literally! The nice elongated design portrays deep submersion. Simple gradation of teal tones on a dark blue background gives it an underwater feel. I enjoy the touch of yellow in the center of the design. The yellow leads the eye straight to the center first, then around and back to the center. The characters are skillfully shaped out of the negative space.

Wonderful mash up of two series known for their anti-heroes. The black and white composition of the design conveys a theme of right and wrong which is prevalent in both franchises. The wonderful dynamic angle in the composition makes the figures appear larger than life. The grouping of the figures set in formation shows hierarchy. The typographic treatment is on point, conveying the dark graphic novel style.

I guess that sweet tooth finally came back to haunt Sesame Street’s Cookie Monster! If the letter of the day is B, then the number must be 3 because this is in my top 3! Hilarious shirt design. Using simple flat colors, Cookie Monster’s face is rendered in complete horror. His hands up and fingers spread apart convey a sense of terror. The Count’s hands seem to gently wrap around Cookie Monster, caressing him as he sucks his blood.
