starConcept – Very interesting concept of mashing up Princess Leia with the Disney Haunted Mansion Stretch Canvas.  I enjoy that this design seems to capture an unfortunate event.

starLines – Nice clean lines. Wonderful Disney style render of Princess Leia. I really enjoy the descriptive curving lines of Leia’s flowing gown. Wonderful R2D2 details on the parasol.

starColor – The color in the design really helps stabilize and adds visual interest. Since the Big Daddy looks visually heavy in black, the brighter colors on the left side help balance his body on the right.

starTexture – I really enjoy the texture in this design. The chalk pastel style gives it rich complexity. The feathered lines look quick and distressed which contrasts nicely with the bright looks.

starComposition – The large-scale of the Big Daddy figure dominates the design. Although the Little Sister is much smaller, the composition is stabilized by the Big Daddy’s pose. Have you noticed all the Star Wars and Batman designs lately? Well here’s a little of both. The lone bounty hunter stands tall, surveying the scene. Wonderful, strong silhouette stands surrounded by warm copper tones and cool glowing blue details. Boba’s armor, jetpack, and cape cast a strikingly similar silhouette to Batman, which fits nicely. I really enjoy the brown copper color which I feel I rarely see paired with that bright blue. The contrast of these two colors gives the design dimension. As a designer, it is always fun to try different color combinations. Sometimes they work and unfortunately sometimes they don’t. I think this color combination was a success, I’ll have to store it in my color combo memory bank.

Cool down this summer with Elsa and Shirt Punch. These Frosty Flakes are Grrrrrreat! and magically delicious! Wonderful, well-balanced composition. I love the variation of color and thickness of the outlines. Elsa’s large bright eyes and wind-swept braided hair looks well rendered. The rest of the design consists of a wintry background with snowflakes for a well-rounded composition with depth.  I greatly enjoy the snowflake cut out shape that helps the figure’s cape transition to the shirt. Yes, I do catch these small details, and I love them!

Bright and appealing royal blue color behind a simplified black and white image. Although the figure is rendered in high contrast, there is a great amount of detail portrayed through textures and forms. This is especially evident in the well-formed human skull. I really enjoy the “Sherlock” hidden in the folds and curves of the figure’s garment. I also very much enjoy the use of the chemical molecules, gears, and binary in the background to create a wonderful, interesting texture. It also adds nice complexity which represents the figure’s mental processes. Brilliant!

This damask print is covered in masks! Is this design available for wallpaper? Wonderful pattern full of lovely little details. I love how at first glance the design seems so simple and elegant, then under careful inspection, you discover it is filled with lovely and nerdy masks from all over pop culture! Each mask is delicately treated and placed nicely in a grid. Another awesome Star Wars design today! A gruff render of the bounty hunter Boba Fett’s helmet. Wonderful use of large, bold strokes and shape to create a larger image. While this design looks plain, the dry brush effect causes a distressed look and gives it complexity. The eye is to meant to finish the shapes in certain areas which keeps this design interesting. The missing shapes and negative space give the design an element of mystery and intrigue as well, playing on the hidden identity of the man behind the helmet.

Ok, so this is not a Star Wars shirt, but it is a design I definitely enjoy. Viva La Revolution! Tyrion Lannister is absolutely one of my favorite Game of Thrones characters! This design renders Peter Dinklage in a heroic and revolutionary way which fits thematically with his persona in the series. You can almost hear the shouts of “Half Man!” in the background. The solid, basic black and white colors on a red shirt is bold and makes a statement which is why this combination is usually the color palette in most propaganda. I especially enjoy the little details. Like the little lion on his beret, the slash across his face, and the three-letter label.

It’s Kurt Wagner, otherwise known as “The Amazing Nightcrawler”! This blue-skinned mutant looks perfectly at home teleporting through one of these Portals. No Aperture Science hardware required! His dark skin and outfit are nicely rendered out of the black negative space. Simple blue highlights accent his skin while the red trim with white hands complete the figure’s outline. His bottom half hanging out the bottom of the other portal is nicely highlighted in orange with the red bottom trim and white feet. I very much enjoy the composition of the design. SPOILER ALERT! Daenerys Targaryen (D.T.) has three dragons! Okay, so hopefully that wasn’t a spoiler, but seeing her ride Drogon sure is! She is accompanied by his brothers, Viserion and Rhaegal. They seem to be taking a midnight path-of-destruction flight. The cool, white-blue moon is large and appealing and central to the design. The silhouette of the dragons are nicely rendered and highlighted by the light of the large moon. I love how the warmth of the embers seem to come and delineate the tree line.

Anakin may not be the most honorable (or likable), but he’s doing his best impression of Game of Thrones‘ Eddard Stark. As Darth Vader, he certainly does play the “hand of the king” to Emperor Palpatine. Here’s an interesting thought. Worse leader? Palpatine? Or Joffrey? I really enjoy the glow of the lightsaber dead center. Wonderful use of grays to etch out the scene. His dark outfit and helmet are nicely highlighted by the Stark (see what I did there) white giving it a shine. Interesting and appropriate round window view background. It is cleverly made up of negative space.

Every time I see one of these Akira mash-ups, I can instantly hear Kaneda’s theme music. Kaneda is depicted here as Vader from Star Wars. This dark lord seems determined, headed for his Tie Fighter ( Okay, technically a Tie Advanced x1 prototype). I enjoy the movement of his wind-blown cape as he walks up the design. His vehicle is meticulously illustrated and brings the eye upward.  The design is then nicely balanced by the red, asian characters in the bottom of the design.
